Best time of the year
Hunting is available throughout the year for both rifle and bow hunters. April to September with mid winter in June-July is the best time of the year to hunt.

Hunt duration
Choose a package hunt or tailor makes a safari to suit your needs. Generally hunts are 7 to 10 days for plains game and 10 to 21 days for Big Five animals.

Booking a safari
Contact or e-mail Rudolf Graupner or a representative of Molopo Kalahari Safaris to discus your hunt preferences and dates available for your safari. Once your hunting safari has been confirmed with the required deposit of 50% on your daily rates and package hunts, you will be furnished with the relevant documentation to finalize your African hunting experience. When you have booked a safari you will be allocated a quota of your preferred game animals and a Professional Hunter.

Book your flight to arrive at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Please consult with us for connecting flights, air charter or road transport to and from your final destination.

Due to delayed flights and the risk of delayed or temporarily lost baggage, we suggest that you sleep over on the day of your arrival. We can suggest very good and affordable accommodation.

Additional touring & sight seeing
Molopo Kalahari Safaris also offers the service to arrange for touring, sight seeing and photographic trips after or before your safari with us. Please contact us well in advance if you wish to do so.

Arms & Ammunition
Please discuss your rifles of preference with us beforehand. For plainsgame we suggest 30-06 or bigger caliber with minimum bullet weight of 180gr. The minimum caliber required for Big Five animals is .375HH with 300gr bullets. Molopo Kalahari Safaris can also provide firearms at a rental of US $100 per hunt, excluding the cost of ammunition. We suggest you zero your gun at 100 yards before departing for South Africa. The gun will be shot again before it is used for hunting.

Other Licenses & Permits
You may need to obtain a CITIES export and import permit for certain species. Molopo Kalahari Safaris will inform you and assist you in obtaining the necessary permits.

Immunization
The Molopo Kalahari Safaris base camp is situated in Malaria free area. If your travels will take you into a Malaria area we will inform you. Please consult your medical practitioner if you do come to a Malaria area and about vaccinations for other diseases in other areas. We advise that you get vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Polio and Typhoid. Please make sure your medical insurance is in place.

Insurance, risk and loss
Although hunting is a potentially dangerous sport, we take utmost care at all times to ensure your safety. We encourage you to ensure that your personal insurance is up to date and that you have in place appropriate travel- and firearm insurance before your departure. Molopo Kalahari Safaris and its personnel will not be held responsible or liable for any losses or damage to equipment, injuries, fatalities or illnesses sustained by clients before, during or after the agreed safari dates.

Terms of business

  • In order to confirm bookings, 50 percent of the total package price and 50 percent on the daily rate of non-package hunts is required. The balance and trophy fees are payable after the hunt.
  • Hunting charges become effective on the first day of the hunt and end on the date agreed.
  • Prices are subject to change without further notice
  • Payments can be made in cash, traveler’s cheques and money transfers.
  • Cancellations made 60 days prior to commencement of the hunt will qualify for a 50 percent refund of the deposit.
  • Rescheduling of a hunt within 60 days of commencement will have an extra US$300 administration fee.
  • Daily rates are subject to 14% government tax.
  • Clients will be charged for animals taken or wounded and lost

Packing List

  • Valid Passport (At least 3 empty pages) + 2 copies, keep copies separate from originals.
  • Customs registration of cameras, lenses, binoculars etc.
  • Taxidermist shipping address and information (tags) & Brokers info (port of entry).
  • Copy of CITIES permit if required for species hunted.
  • Travelers cheques or money for payments.
  • Plains game hunting: Rifle caliber: 30-06, 7mm, .300, .338 – 100 Rounds (softs)
  • Any good core bonded bullet.
  • Big 5 hunting: .375 caliber or bigger – 60 Rounds ammo, 20 Solid, 40 soft trophy bonded.
  • Shotgun (12-20 g) – 200 Rounds
  • Ammo carrying pouch.
  • Hard gun case for shipping.
  • Soft gun case for vehicle transportation in field.
  • Documentation regarding the importation of your fire-arm:
  • Invitation letter from outfitter + 2 copies
  • Customs Declaration Form 4457 (officially stamped) + 2 copies
  • Temporary Import Application SAP520 form
  • Supporting documentation, serial numbers etc.
(In June And July Early Morning Temperatures Can Go As Low As 30 Deg F.)
  • 3 Sets of Camo hunting clothing or military camo / any dark coloured hunting clothing (not heavy), for 7-10 day hunt.
  • 1 Pair of warm gloves.
  • 2 Jackets ( one warm and one light weight ).
  • 2 Sweaters.
  • Fleece vest or a down vest.
  • 1 pr. Sneakers or sandals for wearing in camp.
  • 2 prs. Light weight hunting boots, (Danner, Rocky Mountain, Hi Tec), comfortable and well worn.
  • Short pants,1 pair, for months other than May, June, July or August (day temperature in winter, 65 – 80 F)
  • Casual wear for evening or relaxation.
  • 1 Pair of long underwear- for June and July.
  • Hat or cap to wear against sun.
  • Rain gear.
  • Leather belt.
  • Swimsuit for months September to April.
  • Small flashlight with extra batteries and bulb.
  • Sun glasses and / or shooting glasses.
  • Range finder 400 plus, if you have one (Not a necessity).
  • Knife and sharpening kit.
  • Camera and spare film, lenses etc.
  • Binoculars 8 x 42 or 10 x 42.
  • Plastic Ziplock bags to dust proof / waterproof cameras etc.
  • Personal toiletries.
  • Lip ice, antacid, moisturizer.
  • Medication if any needed (Enough for duration of stay).
  • No Malaria in Kalahari and Great Marico Region, for Malaria areas, bring & drink Malaria tablets
  • Suntan lotion and blockout.
  • Practice shooting from shooting sticks / shooting sticks will be provided.
  • Read Kevin Robertson’s book on shot placement (THE PERFECT SHOT).
